To the Editor:
Dear residents of the Osseo Area School District, in April of 2018 a Director vacancy arose on the Osseo School Board. After reviewing the qualifications of the many candidates seeking appointment, I voted in support of Tanya Simons. Tanya is now running for a four-year seat on the Osseo School Board, and she has my full support.
The school district has an annual budget of over $300 million, employs 3100 people, and educates 21,000 students in a district of close to 150,000 residents. Tanya has achieved a lot in her career, including working in Finance, Internal Consulting, and Continuous Improvement on a global basis for a leading Fortune 500 Company. She also earned her MBA from the Carlson School of Business. Her background gives me the confidence that she can work through the many aspects of making academic, strategic, and financial decisions that affect our students, parents, employees, and residents.
Tanya has been active in her church, has served with the Rotary Club of Brooklyn Park, served on the Brooklyn Park budget planning commission, and has worked closely with high school youth as a Track and Cross Country Coach.
We are facing many significant issues over the next few years in the Osseo School District, including the hiring of a Superintendent, ensuring that we have the facilities needed for our growing student population, increasing the offering of relevant curriculum, maintaining our financial stability, and setting the strategy for academic improvement across all of our schools.
I ask you to join me in voting for Tanya Simons for the Osseo School Board on November 6 so that we can work together to solve these and other challenges.
State Senator Warren Limmer, Minnesota Senate District 34
Our students are facing a rapidly changing competitive landscape. Tanya’s professional background, personal experience, and passion for youth has given her the perspective necessary to ensure our district provides our students with the curriculum options that will best prepare them for the future and to fulfill their dreams. I look forward to casting my vote for Tanya for ISD279 Osseo Area School Board on November 6th.
Mayor Jeffrey Lunde, City of Brooklyn Park
Tanya will bring to the Osseo School Board a tremendous amount of business finance experience, including reviewing organizational and financial structures. Tanya currently serves on the Brooklyn Park Budget Advisory Committee, providing energy and a focus on reviewing the city’s financial plans for the near term and into the future. Her ability to quickly understand and assess financial operations would be extremely beneficial to the board, new board members need to be ready to start on the first day. Tanya has a passion for protecting and improving lives in our community, a passion that will serve her well on the board as she will strive to provide an environment where students, staff, and teachers are able to thrive and meet the challenges they face. Having served as a coach in the St. Paul School District, Tanya understands how a leader can motivate people to reach higher goals and overcome adversity. Simply put, Tanya would make a great choice to serve on the Osseo School Board, ready to start running from the start.
